In English, we have continued our work around the book The Wild Robot. We have been using the descriptions in the story to imagine what the island looks like and then putting our own ideas onto paper.
The children carefully listened to the descriptions in the book before drawing their own versions of the island. We then used our drawings to help us write expanded noun phrases, thinking carefully about the vocabulary we could use to describe the setting.
It was wonderful to see how differently everyone imagined the island, while still using the descriptions from the book to help bring their ideas to life.
In Science we have been learning all about the human digestive system and the journey our food takes through our bodies. To help us understand how the different parts work, we created a model of the digestive system and explored the different organs involved in digestion.
One of our favourite activities involved using a pair of tights to represent the intestines! We could see how food is moved through the digestive system as the muscles squeeze and push it along. This helped us to understand how our intestines help move food through our bodies.
We also worked together to identify and position the different parts of the digestive system, including the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. We really enjoyed seeing how all the different parts work together to help our bodies digest the food we eat.
It has been fantastic to see the children getting stuck into their learning, asking thoughtful questions and enjoying our practical activities.
