Perfect Plants!

Hedgehogs have made an exciting start to our new Science topic which is called ‘Plant Survival’ and they are absolutely loving it! This week, Year Two explored the different parts of a plant, learning about roots, stems, leaves and flowers, and discussing the important job each part does. The children also thought carefully about what a plant needs to grow and stay healthy, including water, light, warmth and air. There were some brilliant scientific discussions and lots of thoughtful questions. Then on Wednesday, Hedgehogs completed an experiment! Year Two planted cress seeds and placed them in different locations with a variety of growing conditions. Some were placed in the light, some in the dark, and some with different amounts of water. Two were even put in the FRIDGE! The children made predictions about what might happen and are excited to observe the changes over the week to see which seeds grow best. It was great fun and Hedgehogs proved to be very enthusiastic scientists!
