This week, Robin Class has been learning about festivals and celebrations.
We began by exploring Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which originated in India. We learned about the story of Rama and Sita and how Diwali celebrates light overcoming darkness. We also talked about how families decorate their homes with Rangoli patterns and celebrate Diwali together, often with lights and fireworks.
The children created colourful Rangoli patterns using coloured sand, then explored printing 2D shapes to make repeating patterns. We also made clay diyas—small lamps traditionally lit during Diwali.
We talked about the celebrations we enjoy with our own families, including Bonfire Night. The children shared their ideas about watching fireworks, then created their own firework pictures. Some printed firework patterns, while others used oil pastels to draw bright bursts of colour.
To finish, we practised our letter formation by copying exciting firework sound words, including bang, crash and boom!
