This week, Robin Class began our exciting Autumn and Harvest topic!
We have been looking for signs of autumn around the school grounds and during our Forest School session in the woods. The children enjoyed exploring the natural environment and investigating autumn treasures, including conkers, acorns, sycamore seeds and pine cones. We have been busy sorting and counting our collections, developing our mathematical skills as we explored the different shapes, sizes and textures.
Harvest Time
We have also been learning all about harvest time on the farm and discovering how farmers work hard to gather their crops. The children have been thinking about where our food comes from and why harvest is such an important time of year.
Autumn Art Adventures
Our classroom has been full of creativity this week! We explored vegetable printing, using different vegetables to create interesting patterns and prints. We also created colourful fruit and vegetable faces inspired by the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who was famous for making portraits using fruit, vegetables and other natural objects.
Fabulous Fruit and Vegetable Phonics
We have also been developing our early writing and phonics skills. The children chose their favourite fruits and vegetables, carefully cut out pictures and listened for the initial sounds in the words. They then had a go at writing the beginning sounds, such as ‘s’ for strawberry.
What a fantastic week! We are looking forward to more seasonal adventures, and exciting discoveries in Robin Class.
