Grounds Day!

All the children were outside today planting and tidying. We had some visitors in our pen too! They swept all the leaves into a big pile for us to play and scratch in. Then they cleaned out our bedding, topped up our food and water and planted our tyres.

We then got into the swing of Grounds Day and did some digging of our own!

Helping

We see so many of the children out at play times helping each other and being kind. We see this when they help each other when they fall over, include everyone in their games or help the younger children learn new games. We love watching this.

We have taken a leaf out of the children’s books and have decided we are going to try and be more helpful too! Zeus is helping Zuri learn how to crow like a big, grown up cockerel. Yvonne has started to check that everyone’s shoe laces are done up properly when they enter our pen. Zog, Yvette and Yasmin tried to help Miss Dore clean out the coop.

Cock-a-doodle-doo

It is finally starting to warm up! We love the summer and the sun. The lighter mornings means that we wake up earlier and make as much noise as possible. All us boys like to crow loudly and even Zuri, who is 10 months old, can now shout at the top of his voice.

Eggcelent News!

As the weather has warmed up we have started laying eggs. At the moment we are laying one a day in our cosy nest box. We are very good at sharing the indoor space and at night was all go into our little house and snuggle up together to sleep. If there is one of us missing from the pen then we are most likely in the house laying a beautiful egg.

Snacking in the Sun.

This week we have had 2 of our favourite things - sun and snacks! We are very pleased that the weather is getting warmer as we are not fans of the rain! As usual we have had a busy week - outside eating bugs, digging and of course sunbathing. Yes, us chickens like a little relaxation in the Sun with our legs out.

One of the things we love about being chickens at Plaistow and Kirdford is that we get spoilt. There are often people coming to visit us and they bring snacks with them. This week we had some of our favourite snacks - corn on the cob, spinach and broccoli. You have to be a fast eater otherwise Zog and Zeus eat it all!

My Adventure!

Hello. My name is Yasmin, although I think I should have been named Houdini! This week I had a bit of an adventure as I found a hole in the fence. Being a curious chicken, I had to investigate it and next thing you know I was out where all the children play! I was having a great time, lots of new areas to explore and new ground to scratch. Unfortunately, my escape was spotted and someone alerted an adult to come and escort me back home. Keep an eye out for me - I am determined to escape again!
