Volunteering

The contribution of members of our community is always highly valued and helps us to ensure we give our pupils the best possible education. We run a number of activities which are dependent on volunteers so please put yourself forward to help out.

Forest school

All children have the opportunity to take part in Forest School each year. To enable us to make the most of our rural location and the wonderful woodlands within our village we do need the support of volunteers to meet the required adult to child ratio to leave the school premises. This is an opportunity to experience everything nature has to offer, including the children's favourite - the mud!

Grounds Day

Each term we hold a School Ground's Day. On that day all of the children get involved in planting, weeding and learning about their local environment. Each class has an area in the school grounds that they are responsible for. On the day we invite family members & the local community to come and join us. There are always a wide range of tasks to get involved with so any amount of time you can offer is greatly appreciated, you don't have to commit for the whole day!

Reading

It is not always possible for our class teachers to be able to hear every child in their class read each week, so we are delighted to have help from parents on a regular or ad hoc basis. Please speak to the class teacher if you are able to spare 20-40 minutes to sit and listen to children read. Many parents find this a hugely rewarding experience and the children benefit from the opportunity to read out loud.

DBS APPLICATIONS

All volunteers at Plaistow and Kirdford need to have completed and hold a current DBS check with us. The DBS application is now really easy to do: Firstly make an appointment to complete the online disclosure form with our office staff.

What to bring to the appointment?

Please bring 3 forms of identification— eg. Your passport, UK driving licence and a bill or bank statement with your name and address on it, issued within the last 3 months. Other forms of ID are acceptable, please ask the office staff. Your documents will be checked and returned to you immediately. We will also need your national insurance number. You must also be aware of your home addresses for the last 5 years. N.B. If you have moved during this period, you must provide the previous addresses and dates of moves.

What happens next?

The online forms take about 20 minutes to complete and will be processed as quickly as possible by West Sussex Disclosure Service (approximately within 2 weeks). Once cleared, you will receive a certificate posted to your home address.

PLEASE BRING YOUR CERTIFICATE INTO THE SCHOOL OFFICE ONCE RECEIVED AS WE NEED THE CERTIFICATE NUMBER FOR OUR RECORDS.
